Composites Technology

Composites are more complex to model than an isotropic material such as iron or steel. Each composite layer can have different orthotropic material property and orientation.

ANSYS offers complete composites solutions for modeling layered shells/solids through generalized section definitions for layer properties, orientation and failure and cohesive zone materials models for studying delaminations in composites.

In addition ANSYS offers interfaces to third party applications such as FIBERSIM (from Vistagy) for importing composites information from draping analysis, MOLDFLOW for importing fiber orientation and residual stress data form injection molding analysis and DIGIMAT (from eXtream Engineering) for advanced multi-scale material modeling.
