One of the better options for meshing with ANSYS CFX is to use the industry proven technology of ANSYS ICEM CFD.
ANSYS ICEM CFD takes full advantage of the object oriented unstructured meshing technology. By simply selecting the CAD geometry (surfaces, curves and points) that describes the space to be meshed ANSYS ICEM CFD automatically generates a triangular surface mesh and the interior tetrahedral mesh using the Octree approach. Maximum element sizes can be defined on the surfaces and in volumes to reflect areas with a high gradient in the flow field. ANSYS ICEM CFD automatically meshes the volume by successive refinement until all grid density requirements are met. The resulting tetrahedral mesh is an adaptive mesh of non-uniform density and it is independent of the CAD patch structure. ANSYS ICEM CFD can automatically arrange layers of prism elements near the boundary surfaces in order to appropriately model close to wall physics. As a result, ANSYS ICEM CFD automatically generates a hybrid tetrahedral grid consisting of prism elements near the boundary surfaces and tetrahedral elements in the interior of the space to be meshed. The thickness of the prism layers can be controlled by exponential or geometric growth laws.
ANSYS ICEM CFD is available within the Workbench environment.
